Vassilopita (New Year Cake) with Butter OLYMPOS

INGREDIENTS
  • 250 gr. butter
  • 400 gr. powdered sugar
  • 4 big eggs
  • 300 ml fresh milk
  • 500 gr. self raising flour
  • 250 gr. grated walnuts
  • 1 tsp. mahlep
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. clove
  • 1 vanilla
  • 1 orange zest
  • 150 ml orange juice

METHOD
  1. Beat the butter with the sugar in the mixer until it is smooth.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, beating them at the same time, then pour the milk and the juice gradually until the ingredients are homogenized.
  3. Add mahlep, cinnamon, clove, orange zest, vanilla scent, and beat all the ingredients until they are homogenized.
  4. At the end slowly add flour and the walnuts.
  5. Butter a pan with a diameter of 30 cm, and flour it lightly. Add the gold coin and bake the vassilopita in a preheated oven at 180° C for about an hour.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven, let the vassilopita cool down and then turn it over to a platter.
  7. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and make the number of the year with cinnamon, powdered sugar or melted couverture.
